My Father is part Dad, friend, cheerleader, teacher, mentor, superhero and the list could go on. I have learned so many important life lessons by watching the examples set by my father: the importance of love, family and the commitment necessary in marriage, how to be tolerant and appreciative of all people and their differences, how to be generous with compassion and currency, why it’s important to fight for the disadvantaged just to name a few.
A little over a month ago, my Dad’s tender heart suffered a very unexpected heart attack which required quadruple bypass surgery. There were some incredibly difficult moments and necessary conversations about DNR wishes. My older sister felt compelled to ask him if there was any thing he felt he had left unsaid or undone. My father’s reply, “If I pass today, my life has been so blessed, so full. I couldn’t have asked or ever hoped for any more than I have”.
My Dad survived and is almost back to his amazing self. I love my Father and appreciate him everyday, but this Father’s Day, I am extra grateful. I am so grateful and blessed to have him and share him with this world, because this world is a better place with him in it.
Happy Father’s Day!
