Hard to believe that the Holidays are just a couple weeks away when your head and the weather are still acting like it’s Summer, but the calendar does not lie and the countdown to the Holidays has begun. Truth be told, I am not a big fan of Winter and thankfully the Holidays serve to ease me into and half way through colder weather and shorter days.
In our family, like most, the Holidays include amazing food, drink and family gatherings. I know that, for some, the food and family gatherings part can be more stressful than joyful, which can be avoided if you put yourself in the right frame of mind. Make the decision now, to organize a stress free Holiday season!
For instance, gather the family to prepare the meal together, assigning prep and cooking instruction to each. Turn on some great tunes, pour drinks of choice and celebrate being together! If you and your family members don’t really enjoy that type of atmosphere or the mess, assign each family member to bring a prepared dish to share. If that’s not your thing, order the meal out and just reheat; order parts of the meal out and only make what you want to. There are plenty of establishments that are happy to provide the turkey with all of the trimmings, plus dessert of course. Heck, find a local restaurant and celebrate there, leaving all of the labor, serving and clean up to someone else.
Celebrating the Holidays doesn’t have to be a “one size fits all”. Resist the urge to make it what you think it “should be” and make it what you “want it to be”. The most important aspect of celebrating any special occasion is for you to enjoy the moment and those you gather with.
